چکیده

Handshake circuits form a special class of asynchronous circuits that has enabled the industrial exploitation of the asynchronous potential such as low power, low electromagnetic emission, and increased cryptographic security. In this paper we present a test solution for handshake circuits that brings synchronous test-quality to asynchronous circuits. We add a synchronous mode of operation to handshake circuits that allows full controllability and observability during test. This technique is demonstrated on some industrial examples and gives over 99% stuck-at fault coverage, using standard test-pattern generators. The paper describes how a full-scan mode can be achieved, including an approach to minimize the number of dummy latches used in the data path.

Partial Scan Test Generation for Asynchronous Circuits Based On Breaking Global Loops

Asynchronous circuits without global clocks are hard to test. Scan design methods provide an effective way to test these circuits. Full scan design seems to be a perfect alternative but at the cost of area overhead. So partial scan based design helps to overcome this area overhead problem and giving a better fault coverage. This paper presents a partial scan based ATPG methodology to generate t...

Scan Chain Optimization for Asynchronous Circuits

The lack of a good testing method for asynchronous circuits has long been a serious drawback for the use of asynchronous circuits in industrial applications. With the introduction of a full-scan test method it was shown that it is possible to develop a full-automated structural test method for these circuits. The major drawback of the method however was the excessive area required to implement ...

Synthesis of Externally Synchronous, Internally Asynchronous Circuits

The purpose of this work is to take an arbitrary 2phase synchronous circuit and eliminate its global clock while preserving its externally visible behavior. This is done by converting it into a set of self-timed combinational circuits with latches and a clock generation network that uses only a local handshake. We discuss the overhead required by this approach to selftiming and outline opportun...

Clock Synchronization through Handshake Signalling

We present a method for synchronizing pausible clocks in GALS (Globally Asynchronous, Locally Synchronous) systems. In contrast to most conventional GALS schemes the method is not based on including in each ring oscillator a synchronizing element (such as for instance an arbiter) which on one side can pause the clock and on the other side offers a handshake interface. Instead, we propose a sche...

A Design Method of Mixed Synchronous-Asynchronous Circuit

Most of the digital circuits are categorized into the synchronous circuit which uses a clock signal to alter its internal state such that a digital signal is latched by a flip-flop in the timing specified by a clock signal. Therefore, even if a digital signal suffers from ”hazard” in between two consecutive raising edges of a clock signal, a correct signal is successfully latched if the signal ...
